Ole Miss Football: Chad Kelly breaks Eli Manning's Touchdowns Record as No. 22 Rebels Stomp No. 17 LSU 38-17

Behind another masterful performance from Chad Kelly and a suffocating Rebel run defense, Ole Miss cruised to a 38-17 win over the rival LSU Tigers in Oxford tonight. Kelly, whose 33rd touchdown broke Eli Manning's single-season total touchdowns record at Ole Miss, completed 19 of 34 passes for 280 yards, two scores, and zero interceptions, and led the team in rushing with 81 yards and two additional touchdowns. LSU actually led the Rebs in yards (508 to 432), but committed three turnovers to Ole Miss' one and struggled on fourth down, keeping them out of the endzone. Leonard Fournette, who was considered a Heisman favorite just weeks ago, was limited to just 108 yards on 25 carries.

The game was rarely in doubt, with Ole Miss surmounting an early 24-point lead and holding on shut LSU out in the fourth quarter. There were a few brief moments at the start of the second half that gave Rebel fans legitimate cause to be nervous. With just under two minutes to go in the first half, LSU pulled within 17 after Brandon Harris connected with Tyron Johnson on a 39-yard touchdown reception. On the opening drive of the second half, LSU kicked a field goal to cut their deficit to 14, then recovered a Jaylon Walton fumble on the ensuing kickoff. With the ball on the Ole Miss 25-yard line, LSU leaned heavily on Leonard Fournette to earn a third and goal on the Rebel one yard line. Fournette would fumble the ball heading into the endzone, but a heads-up recovery by lineman William Clapp made the contest a one score game.

Ole Miss then scored 14 unanswered points in the third quarter and didn't give up another LSU score until fourth quarter garbage time. There were, really, only a few moments where a Rebel victory was in doubt, making this one of the more convincing SEC wins of this season.

We will have continued coverage of this Rebel victory tomorrow and throughout the next week. Your soundtrack celebration is below. Hotty damn toddy, y'all.
