Is 'Empire' New On Wednesday? Episode 6 On Hiatus Until After World Series

Sorry, fans of the Lyon family. Those looking forward to answers to a major cliffhanger on Fox's "Empire" will have to wait at least a week because the latest episode will not air at its regular time Wednesday, 9 p.m. EDT.
Because of the World Series matchup between the New York Mets and Kansas City Royals, the hip-hop drama is going on a brief hiatus between its fifth and sixth episodes until Major League Baseball's next champion is crowned. As of right now, "Empire" is expected to return with its sixth episode, "A High Hope For A Low Heaven" on Fox, Wednesday, Nov. 4 at 9 p.m. EST. However, if the World Series goes to a Game 7 it will be played on the night of Nov. 4, meaning a new "Empire" would be pushed back to Wednesday, Nov. 11.
When "Empire" picks up with episode 6, Lucious (Terrence Howard) and Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) will be working together to find their son Hakeem (Bryshere Y. Gray) after he was kidnapped in the final shocking moments of episode 5. Hakeem will be fighting for his life in the custody of those who grabbed him while he was running in a park. Lucious and Cookie will ask Jamal to stay away from the Hakeem situation because it's dangerous, so Jamal will get back in the studio to work on some new music with his old producer.
Although Cookie will be working side by side with Lucious to save their son, things are expected to heat up with her new love interest, Laz (Adam Rodriguez). Cookie is shown sharing a kiss with the concert promoter in the episode 6 promo video. Laz helped protect Cookie after two men broke in to Lyon Dynasty to steal her masters and plant bugs to spy on the new company.
"Empire" has been a huge hit for Fox since it premiered last January. Despite having some slips in ratings this season, the show remains one of the highest-rated programs on TV. "Empire" was seeing an increase in ratings in each episode until episode 2 of Season 2 where it posted a 5.4 rating, down from a 5.5 among the adults 18-49 demographic. Episode 5 brought in a 4.8 rating with 12.2 million viewers.
