He is no normal man.” Clear your throats and bust out your best primal yell because here comes the latest incarnation Edgar Rice Burroughs’ venerable apeman. Welcome to the first trailer for The Legend Of Tarzan, the summer pic from habitual Harry Potter helmer David Yates. The stars? Him Alexander Skarsgard. Her Margot Robbie.
We hear that the jungle preys on the old, the sick, the wounded and the weak. But not Tarzan, the mancub — sorry, wrong property — who is raised by apes and becomes “a ghost in the trees.” Here’s the official logline: It has been years since the man once known as Tarzan (Skarsgard) left the jungles of Africa behind for a gentrified life as John Clayton III, Lord Greystoke, with his beloved wife, Jane (Robbie) at his side. Now, he has been invited back to the Congo to serve as a trade emissary of Parliament, unaware that he is a pawn in a deadly convergence of greed and revenge, masterminded by the Belgian, Captain Leon Rom (double Oscar winner Christoph Waltz). But those behind the murderous plot have no idea what they are about to unleash.
There’s plenty of altercations, implications and general peril in the film co-starring Samuel L. Jackson, Djimon Hounsou, John Hurt and Jim Broadbent. (all Oscar winners or nominees). Adam Cozad and Craig Brewer penned the screenplay based on the century-old character. Warner Bros Pictures releases The Legend Of Tarzan on July 1 stateside and also is taking it to much of the world, with Village Roadshow Pictures handling select territories. Take a look at the trailer — especially those of you in Tarzana — and tell us what you think.
